BioProbe Diagnostics, a spinout from the National University of Ireland Galway, develops innovative PCR tests for the detection of microbial pathogens associated with water contamination in environmental and industrial processes. Our strong team of scientists, innovators and business experts, develops and markets these PCR test kits worldwide. Using patented technologies, our goal is to transform the global marketplace with rapid, accurate, cost-effective, and user-friendly PCR test kits. Our first product, Bio Lp-1, a transformative Legionella test kit, received the prestigious EU Fast Track to Innovation Award in 2020.

Dr Kate Reddington

Dr Kate Reddington

Kate holds a BSc and PhD in Microbiology from NUI Galway and has over 10 years’ research experience in the development of rapid nucleic acid based diagnostic solutions for application in the clinical and environmental sectors. Kate has published >15 peer reviewed publication articles in leading Microbiology journals and is a named lead inventor on three patent applications (one granted in Europe and the US). Throughout her career to date, Kate’s research has been highly applied and she has worked as a lead scientist and work package leader on a large collaborative FP7 R+D project with 2 European SME’s. During this project Kate was responsible for diagnostic assay development, IP protection and subsequent technology transfer to industry partners.

Chief Scientific Officer
Dr Thomas Barry

Dr Thomas Barry

Thomas has over 25 years R+D experience working in this sector, with >75 peer-reviewed publications. He is the inventor of >15 DNA testing patents. His interests are focused on initial concept and biodiscovery, design, development, optimisation, validation of rapid DNA technologies for the detection and identification of microbial contaminants. These microbial DNA technology developments have been brought to the marketplace through industry-driven commercial product research and development, technology transfer and intellectual property licensing agreements, primarily in the human clinical diagnostics sector. Thomas holds a PhD in Microbiology from NUIG and Masters in Business Studies from UCD.

Elizabeth Minogue

Elizabeth Minogue

Elizabeth brings a strong background in assay design and development combined with Quality Systems to the project team. Her experience lies in the use of rapid diagnostics to monitor and detect microbial contaminants in environmental samples. Elizabeth received her honours undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science, Microbiology, and her PhD in Microbiology from NUI Galway.

Brendan O’Brien

Brendan O’Brien

Brendan has a strong background in global business development, sales and marketing, as well as creating and scaling new businesses. He previously created and scaled 3 Irish startups, including 2 spin-outs, and led them to international acquisition. Former President of Digital Taoglas, CEO of ThinkSmarter, EMEA CEO of Search Optics, Global Sales Director with Cisco in California, as well as senior roles with Accenture and IBM. He holds a BSc, MMangtSc, a PhD in Business and Adv Dip in International Sales. His philosophy is remaining passionately curious, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance at home with his family in Killarney.

Orla O’Connor

Orla brings a wealth of global marketing experience from a diverse range of industries including financial services, asset management, FMCG, green technologies, education, not-for-profit, and the arts. She has consistently used her strategic marketing skills to successfully manage brands, launch new products and services, investigate new markets, develop customer relationship programmes, facilitate organisational change and boost revenue through creative marketing campaigns. Orla has also trained and coached marketing professionals in London, Paris, Luxembourg, Sofia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. She holds a BBS in Marketing & French, CIM PG Dip, and PG Cert (HE).

Celine is an adaptable marketeer with experience in digital marketing, event management, content creation and project management, gained from working within several global based sectors including Biotechnology, Healthcare, and ICT sectors on a B2B and B2C level.
Innovative and creative in her work approach, with strong human and interpersonal skills she enjoys a new challenge and is delighted to be involved in the launch of our revolutionary new product Bio Lp-1 alongside the BioProbe Diagnostics team. Celine holds a BSc. Management & Marketing from TUD, Dip. Digital Marketing from NCI and a Dip. Desk Top Publishing (Adobe).

Talia Arcari

Talia Arcari

Talia has a strong scientific background, both in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Before managing multiple European projects at NUI Galway, she was a key member of the Biochemistry Department at Universidad de la República Uruguay, and later Quality Control Analyst in Biopharma. Talia is passionate about science and innovation, and its constantly changing landscape. Dynamic and highly organised, with the ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge, she is always ready for a new challenge. She holds a BSc in Biochemistry, an MSc in Molecular and Cell Biology, and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Granada, Spain. Talia strives to keep learning new things from the people around here every day.

Research & Development Scientist
Sarah Delaney

Sarah Delaney

Sarah is involved in the design and development of our nucleic acid diagnostics for the detection and identification of microbial contaminants. She has a depth of experience and knowledge in molecular and microbiological techniques, and bioinformatics analysis. Prior to joining the team, she investigated antibiotic resistance in poultry, where she identified mechanisms of resistance, conducted plasmid-based studies and metagenomic analyses, and evaluated the effectiveness of a dietary component as a possible measure to reducing the spread of resistance. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology from NUI Galway, and PhD in Microbiology from Maynooth University.

Jonathan Skerritt

Jonathan Skerritt

Jonathan is​ a Big 4 trained chartered accountant with over 15 years’ experience in financial accounting, reporting, operations, IT software development, tax, and payroll, with large brands such as KPMG, Renault and Nissan. He built his career in Mexico and the United States, where he is proud to have managed the financial roll out of the All Day Breakfast equipment for the McDonald’s chain of restaurants. He holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies, MBA in Management Information Systems, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland.
